The button (23-28.02.2014)

On Monday the volunteer team together with a lot of youngsters cooked Sushi under the instructions of Moritz. It was much fun for everyone and very delicious to eat, except the very spicy wasabi sauce that almost killed Paul!

In the same day there were also many new youngster in JACis because some schools had project week. They wanted to discover the different opportunities for youngsters in their community so we showed them what we can offer in JACis – nice people, food and games. Some of them stayed for the food and play games with us. Hopefully they will come again ;)
On Wednesday, there was also a huge group of students in JACis coming from Rezeknes 4th Viduskola where they had the project “discover our city” so they decided to visit our awesome youth Centre and have an impression of non-formal education. We presented ourselves and our activities and did some funny games with them and hope to see some of them again.

On Friday 27th February, Moritz organized a big event in Rezeknes library called the “Festival of mothers tongue”. The goal was to read the poem “Poga” by the Latvian writer Knuts Skulinieks in as many different languages as possible. Because the poem is very remarkable and became internationally famous it was translated into many languages. Moritz managed to find more or less mothers tongue readers of 16 languages, 3 of them via video - French, German, Swedish, Turkish, Romanian, Georgian, Uzbek, Belarussian, Thai, Arabic, Polish, English, Spanish, Italian, Slovakian etc.

After the reading the librarians ladies prepare some funny games for within we had to decorate with coloures buttons a big tree. each participant to teh event received a price that will remember about this beautiful day. At the end, we spent some time having tea and coffee and discovering their languages. It was a nice and cozy event.

The first results of the preparation for living library appeared this week. We finished the poster for the big event and we distributed them to all the schools in Rezekne. Also, the catalogue with the book was finalized and is now ready to be translated to Latvian.

During the weekend, Clemence participated to a volunteers meeting in Saldus. Almi from Jordan and Teo from Romania from the local youth Centre Jic Skunis organized and managed that event. The event started on Friday with a Latvian evening, prepared by the local youth council but unfortunately Clem couldn’t see it because she only arrived the next day at lunchtime. The other volunteers met her at the bus stop and then took her on a walk through the city for 3 hours! After that they prepared a presentation about their home country which they presented in the evening. They had a lot of fun games and a quiz. It was a great meeting of shared cultures.
