There is one more week untill the Midsummer celebration, and as far as we heard, here in Latvia this is a very important holiday, so we are all looking forward to see how the local people are celebrating here. But untill there we had a lot of work for the preparation of the seminar and also other interesting activities in JACis.
We spend a lot of time outside with the youth and kids from JACis, playing Kube and football in the park or cards in JACis' yard. The weather was very nice so we could enjoy a lot outdoor activities.
On Wenesday we celebrate Chocolate day. We cooked homemade chocolate, and we played funny games with chocolate. During a quiz game about chocolate we discover the benefits of this desert but also interesting facts about it like the fact that was used as money in Maya and Atzec civilization or that Napoleon had all the time with him chocolate or that the people from Switzerland are eating the bigest quantity of chocolate from all the word. Is was a very delicios, funny and educational day.
On the next day we visited a local agency which offer support or special trainings to unemployed youth in order to help them to find a job. Here we presented EVS as an opportunity for unemployed youth that want to gain new competences and we talked about our volunteering experince.
On Friday, Moritz prezents to JACis participants the Swedish tradition of celebrating Midsummer. We create together a big cross from wood and we decorated with leaves. Moritz, shared with us a lot of nice stories about the origin of the cross but also about the history of Sweeden.
In this time Vija and Agita prepared for us a special meal for LIGO celebration: we eat traditional cheese with caraway and we drink Kvass, a traditional drink, very populare for this holiday.
In the same day we participated to a flashmob in Raina park where we spend one hour reading in silence.
In the afternoon Moritz prepared in JACis meatballs wich were very delicious even if we had to wait a long time to prepare them.
